I’ve finally sat down and annotated what needs to be done by Dice Pencil & Paper for this year. Sometimes, when you have many projects running at once, you end up doing a little on each but not real progress overall. That, of course, needs to be changed! The less that gets finalized, the more you start freaking out because it looks, to the rest of the world, like you;re doing absolutely nothing other than incessantly posting ideas on Twitter. Thus, here are the plans for 2021, hoping of course that nothing goes awry!
Perilous Ventures
The very first priority for DP&P this year is to wrap up Perilous Ventures, which has been on Playtest Edition since, well, quite a long time. Even then, people still buy it, at least a couple copies every month, which gives me the impression that the game might be even more attractive that what even myself thought!
This means that my full writing and creative efforts will be around this game starting this month. I understand that I’ve talked about the newest version of 52 Fates, and been teasing the changes, but as a one-person shop, it’s essential to focus on a single big project and get it done.
Perilous Ventures is a fun, lightweight system, and every time I’ve played it, it’s been a lot of fun! I think it’s a smart decision to finish it up. One of the things I’m considering is moving it to Affinity Publisher, since after my work with Sagrado I feel way more confident and skilled on it, and the results surpass anything that can be done with Microsoft Word (which is no slouch at document editing once you learn its advanced layout features).
Sagrado
You probably don’t know this, but I published my very first RPG in Spanish, Sagrado. It’s a game that uses a single Spanish card deck (40 card) for its mechanics, and in which you play a Sagrado (Sacred), a holy herald and warrior and go adventuring in the name of your deity and church. It uses no math and no stats, yet it has fully developed mechanics. It’s a quirky cool game! I will be creating a page for it here (more on the website further down), but for now it’s only on Itch. That game is finished (ha!), but I need to focus on its marketing in the Hispanic market, so there will be some efforts put there.
52 Fates
As explained above, no further work will be done on 52 Fates until the work on Perilous Ventures is completed. But stay tuned, as there is a lot of cool things in the pipeline for it! The improvements are totally worth the wait.
Code name: Justfall
What is Justfall? It’s the working title for a new RPG set in the modern world. I still haven’t decided which system to use for it; I need to analyze my goals with it and based upon that either use with one of my existing systems, and probably tweak them to fit.
The premise of Justfall is of a world where some people have become intertwined with their spirit guardians in such a way that they acquire powers and abilities from them. The powers are dependent on the type of spirit linked to the player character. It’s a world rife with factions, secret societies, and international intrigue! I have a lot of hopes on this one, and I’m looking forward to working on it and doing it with the utmost respect and care as possible, while keeping it fun, and as all my systems are, light and easy to play.
YouTube channel
People have been asking me to make more videos (no, really, they have), and I’ve learned a lot about game design in these past months, so I think there’s plenty of material for me to create videos. I’m thinking of keeping them relatively short and sweet, punchier. I know this goes against the monetization standards of YouTube, but I’m here for the game stuff and to share my experiences, and the YouTube income is just nice hobby income.
So expect some more videos!
This website
For now, I’ll be keeping the DP&P website. As you might have noticed, I “turned off” the shop for now, as it required more management from me. However, I might publish it for this year, as it doesn’t hurt to have more selling & distribution options, plus all the profit is 100% for me when I make a sale here. Also, I want to schedule at least one blog post per month; I think that would be nice.
So that’s it! I hope to be able to fulfill these goals; it will be an interesting year, one of growth that will allow me to set Dice Pencil & Paper as a more “legit” role-playing game published. Huge thank you to all of you who have supported me through all these years!
