On adding a rogue-like class to 52 Fates

The way that a rogue-type character works doesn’t fit well with the proactive mechanics of 52 Fates, where the card suit played determines an action to perform. Other than adding actions for evasion, all other typical rogue or thief skills don’t apply to a combat situation.

This is also the moment where I say that sneak attack makes no sense and that I don’t want a mechanic like that in this game. I’ve never understood how a rogue attacking a distracted enemy can be so much different from a fighter performing the same action. It feels very tacked-on in full-blast combat. It does make sense in an assassination context. But in regular combat? Not at all.

So seeing that the only valid thief-like maneuver for combat would be purely evasive, it makes no sense to create a complete class out of it. I’d rather have these thievery skills be part of a chosen background.

What are your thoughts on this? Let me know!
